How To Bring Your Best Self to Work

Whether you’re returning to the workplace, never left or are working from home, there’s always room for improvement. Here are some tips for self improvement in the workplace.

Schedule Your Time

Scheduling and using your time wisely can be extremely important to productivity and self improvement. When you have many things to work on at once, it can be tough to prioritize. It’s also easy to get bogged down in emails.

To become more efficient, plan to work on priority projects at times when you are most productive. For some people that’s first thing in the morning and for some, it may be the end of the day. Block out time for yourself to work during your most energized hours. Avoid your inbox during this time as well.

Sleep Well

Another way to improve in the workplace is to improve your sleep. If you’re waking up without feeling refreshed, you’re not going to be your best self at work. Sleep is important to help your body recover after a long day.

To get better sleep, try going to bed at the same time and waking up at the same time each day. If you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, the benefits of weighted blankets include better overall sleep and less time restlessly tossing and turning. You should also avoid alcohol and blue light devices close to bedtime.

Eat Well

Aside from sleep and scheduling, eating well can increase your productivity at work. Make sure you eat a breakfast with a focus on lean protein and fruits or veggies to get your day started right. Also, make sure your lunch isn’t heavy. A lunch high in fat or carbs can leave you feeling sluggish and tired in the late afternoon.

Exercise

Just like eating well, exercise can help you bring your best self at work. Exercising regularly gives you more energy throughout your day, which can help you be more productive. If you exercise in the morning, you may even get an endorphin boost that will give you some happy energy going into your day.

Exercise four to five times a week. Your exercise routine should include some cardiovascular activity and some strength training. Even taking a walk on your lunch can help give you a boost of energy to take you through your afternoon.

Don’t Get Distracted in Meetings

Being sluggish in late afternoon meetings after a heavy meal can keep you from being able to concentrate. In general, it can be tough to concentrate in long meetings. Paying attention and being an active participant in meetings are great ways to improve yourself in the workplace.

To improve your meeting game, don’t try to multitask in a meeting. This is especially easy to fall into the habit of if your team is meeting virtually. Focus on what’s being said and participate in the conversation. Take notes if it helps you stay focused.

Networking

Staying focused in meetings will help you improve yourself at work. Another way to improve yourself at work is to put in the effort outside of work. Take the time to go to networking events and meet other people in your field. Go to conferences and learn new skills that center around your job.

Networking can have a really positive impact because it can help you make new friends in your field. It can also help you build partnerships that can further your career. Plus, networking events are a chance to meet new people and have some fun.

There are so many ways to bring your best self to work and improve your work self. You’ve just got to give them a try.
