What Comes Next in the Middle East?

The brilliantly executed U.S. raids on Iran’s nuclear facilities has changed the narrative in the Mideast on many fronts and for many years. Here are our five major take-aways:

  1. IRAN WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENRICH URANIUM: Neither Israel nor the U.S. will allow this to happen. As for Donald Trump, he’s not just bluster — he did what he promised to do.

  2. THE NEXT BIG CRISIS is the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian legislature voted yesterday to shut it down, but this strikes us as self-defeating for the Iranians. The U.S. has several mine sweepers already in the Persian Gulf.

  3. Perhaps the most intriguing wild card is the Iranian people — especially young people — who are sick of a weak economy, inflation, and rigid dress codes. Once this crisis dies down, they may rebel.

  4. If they do, regime change is possible — not right away, but yesterday Trump blurted out, way too prematurely, that regime change is possible.

  5. This is a fascinating episode for the U.S. political parties. The Democrats want to invoke the War Powers act and hold hearings, while perhaps a third of the MAGA Republicans are grumbling. No question — Trump’s power is even greater.

BOTTOM LINE: This is a stunning victory for Trump, For the Democrats to call for impeachment is ridiculous. Several Mideast countries are secretly happy — Iran has been humiliated.
