#1 Reason Social Media Doesn't Work For Financial Advisors

What's the number one reason why most businesses have social media presence that just don't work? You ready for it? Here's the answer, You're treating social media as a way to advertise your services and try to sell something versus as a way to actually be social, to engage with other people in your online community. . .

Engaging With Others

At the end of the day, that's what a successful social media presence comes down to is engaging with other people. It's really not that complicated. There's all these strategies and tactics that we can share and ways that you can go about trying to make your social media better, and they're helpful. But those are tactics, right? What we really want to think about is, at the end of the day, what is the big picture? Number one thing that is going to make your social media more effective and actually produce results? And it all comes down to being a human being who socializes with others. It's not rocket science. So every day engage with other people.

80-20 Rule

I always use the 80-20 rule for every one thing you post, you should be engaging with five other people's content. So set aside time every day to leave engaging meaningful comments on other people's posts.

Be Human

The other thing is show that you're a human being. Talk about your family, talk about your kids, talk about your hobbies. Even if you're a business, you can ask questions of the people that follow you in your local community. Something like what's everybody most excited to do this upcoming weekend here in the Cleveland area. Right. And get a conversation going. So again, if you're wondering why your social media is just missing the Mark, don't forget, we all usually get the media part of social media, right? We put links to our blog or website sending people somewhere. But the social part is the part that's missing, and that's the part you want to focus on if you want to find success.
